FAQ
In the order the questions come up, from what this is to what happens if something goes wrong.
What Saikyou is
How can you be this cheap?
Everyone posts together, so one box goes to the grader and one comes back instead of a parcel each. We have no shopfront, no staff and no advertising budget. And we'd rather make our money from membership than from marking up every card that passes through.
Is Saikyou a grading company?
No. Saikyou is an Australian submission and collector-services business. We inspect, photograph, batch, submit and track. The grade on the slab is decided entirely by the grading company.
Do you guarantee grades?
Never. Nobody can honestly guarantee a grade before the grader sees the card. Our pre-screen identifies visible condition issues and shows you what we saw. That's all it is.
Do you authenticate?
No. V1 pre-screen is a condition review. If we notice characteristics we can’t confidently verify, we’ll say so and you can still submit for the grader’s formal authentication determination.
Are you an official partner of any grader?
No, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. We'll only ever say we work with a grader once that's true and in writing. Until then you can't pay us, which is deliberate.
Pre-screen
What is pre-screen?
A physical condition review of your card before it leaves Australia, for $4.95 per card. We check centering, corners, edges and surface under proper light and magnification, photograph findings, and report in plain language. You then choose to submit anyway or remove the card.
Can I still submit a flagged card?
Yes. It's your card and your decision. We record your choice with a timestamp and submit it if you tell us to. We'll never silently submit a card you were told had concerns, and never silently hold one either.
Sending your cards
How do I send cards?
You post them to Saikyou yourself, tracked, with your submission ID in the parcel. Inbound postage is your choice and your cost. We publish the postal address when submissions open.
What holders should I use?
Penny sleeve inside a semi-rigid holder (Card Saver style), with rigid board around the stack. Nothing adhesive should touch the card or the holder. Keep spares: we can resleeve if needed, with fresh quality sleeves.
Do you clean cards?
No. No polishing, pressing, flattening, chemical cleaning or restoration of any kind. An air blower for loose dust is the only thing that touches a card, and we don't rub uncertain surface marks.
Time and tracking
How long does grading take?
Grader turnaround is the grader’s own published estimate, for example 75+ business days for Beckett Base at the time of writing. Turnarounds change; we publish what the grader publishes and never guess.
Does turnaround include shipping?
No. Total journey time is grader turnaround plus freight to the grader and back, plus return postage to you. Each is tracked and shown separately in your timeline.
How does tracking work?
Every card gets its own number, photos front and back, and a line on your timeline each time it moves. When the batch moves, your card moves with it.
Insurance and value
What about insurance?
Our insurance position is being finalised before any customer cards are accepted, and until then conservative value caps apply: A$500 per card and A$2500 per submission. We'll state the real coverage in plain terms, not badges.
Why do you need a declared value?
Your raw declared value is used for caps, grader requirements and insurance. It's not a Saikyou appraisal. Grader limits and upcharge thresholds may differ, and false declarations can affect claims and service.
Money
Why do prices change?
Each batch’s price is set from the grader’s fees, freight, insurance and currency. When those move, the next batch’s price can change. Your order keeps the price it was placed at.
What are the membership limits?
Saikyou Collector covers 10 discounted cards and 5 pre-screen credits a month. If you grade more than that, talk to us about dealer arrangements as they open up.
Can I cancel?
Until your cards go into a batch, yes: the submission can be called off and the grading fee comes back. Once they are with the grader, their fee is spent. A completed pre-screen is a delivered service either way.
Who pays return postage?
You do, separately, at actual cost. Keeping domestic return postage out of the grading price is one way we stay cheaper for everyone instead of subsidising some orders with others.
What about upcharges?
If a grader applies an upcharge (for example, declared value above a service limit), we map it to the specific card, explain the source, and pass it through with your prior consent. We don't silently absorb or silently charge.
What happens to unpaid orders?
Nothing goes out until your payment has cleared. If it hasn't, we'll chase you a couple of times, then either hold the cards or send them back.
When something goes wrong
What if the grader rejects or no-grades a card?
We record the grader’s actual outcome (authentic/no grade, altered, minimum size, questionable authenticity and so on) without reinterpreting it, and the card returns to you with everything documented.
What if a grader service is paused?
It happens. Graders pause services. We check each grader’s status against their own site before every batch, and you can join the waitlist for a reopening alert. Your order keeps the price it was placed at.
What if I don't answer?
We send reminders and hold the card. A flagged card is never silently submitted. Eventually it's returned or held.
